On to the Next….

As mentioned in a previous post, there are certain games Jeffery plays that eventually requires some assistance. He will play these games until he reaches a point that he is having trouble getting past and then it becomes:

“Help with (slight pause) please, Daddy.”
“Help with what, Son?”
“Help with (slight pause) please, Daddy!”
“Help with what, Son?? Help with my computer? Help with my game?? Help with What???”
“Help with What!!” he repeats…
“OK, son…just show me what you need.”

He then will lead me to his computer and show me the game he is stuck on. This time, much like before, he is playing “Spongebob Typing.” He installs this every other month or so when the mood strikes him. This time however, much to my surprise and pride, he had gotten a lot further than in the past. In fact, he had almost reached the “Grand Final” which is the culmination of the typing lessons given during the “Bikini Bottom Typing Tournament.” Previously, he had asked for help at each lesson quiz…then at each stage final. This time however, he has pushed on and made it past all of those. This has not come without some grumbling when he made mistakes…and like his father before him, starting over when too many mistakes have been made for his liking. But he has soldiered on and we have cheered him on every step of the way. We never want our son to think like “Squidward”: (in Squidward’s Voice) “Welcome to the home of unrecognized talent!”

“Good Job, Jeffery!”
“Nice typing, Son!”

I cannot help but be impressed by his sticktuitiveness (I used to think this wasn’t a real word…but it’s on Merriam-Webster.Com…so it MUST be). This is not to say he is typing like the wind, or even as you theoretically should…you know…fingers on home row and all that typing etiquette stuff. He IS typing with accuracy and considering he is using Dad’s tried and true two finger approach, that’s impressive in itself. He does pretty well…as you might expect from the winner of the “Bikini Bottom Typing Tournament” and the proud holder of the Peanut Butter Sandwich. (That was the prize for winning the typing tournament…big spenders those folk in “Bikini Bottom.”)

So Kudos to my son for perseverance and stubbornness to make it through where past Jeffery’s have failed before. On to the next game!!
